Diablo 4 Guide: Corrupted Roots XP Farm – How to Reach Level 300 in Season 13 and Beyond

Diablo4 Jun-15-2026 PST

Introduction

This guide will show you the best way to farm experience in Diablo IV Season 13 (and likely Season 14 as well). This method is not only fun and easy to execute, but it also yields a massive amount of experience. If you haven't reached level 300 yet, this method will help you achieve that goal easily. The core of this strategy lies in cleverly utilizing Nightmare Dungeon affixes, altar mechanics, and War Plan nodes to continuously summon waves of bosses. These bosses drop numerous Whispering Chests containing experience orbs.

War Plan Requirements

Before you start, you need to allocate specific nodes in your war plans. The farm is self-sustaining once you have an initial stock of corrupted roots.

Corrupted Roots Node (Tree of Whispers Section): This is mandatory. The farm requires corrupted roots to start. However, the farm is self-sustaining—you will get corrupted roots back from the whisper caches dropped by bosses. Start with at least 20 to 30 corrupted roots to ensure you never run out. After that initial investment, you will never need to farm or buy corrupted roots again.

Roots of Power and Feast Nodes: The Hybrid Feast node is particularly valuable because it gives a chance to spawn a boss when you open a corrupted root.

Tree of Plenty and Wisdom of Whisperers: The Wisdom of Whisperers node makes whisper caches drop additional experience orbs. Since you will be farming massive quantities of whisper caches from head rotten bosses, you will soon be swimming in XP.

Dread Revival Node (Nightmare Dungeon Section): This causes head rotten bosses you kill to have a chance to respawn. The newly spawned boss will also drop a cache.

Nemesis Node: Normally, this node spawns elites when you activate a shrine. You will manipulate it to spawn head rotten bosses instead.

Finding the Right Nightmare Dungeon

You need to run war plans and prioritize nightmare dungeons that appear during those war plans. Do not use sigil-created nightmare dungeons—they will not work well for this farm.

How to find the correct dungeon: Teleport to a nightmare dungeon from your war plan using the teleport button on your map. Once inside, open your map and check the affixes. You are looking for a shrine affix—any shrine type works (protection, artillery, etc.). If the dungeon does not have a shrine affix, complete the dungeon and continue running your war plans until you find one that does.

Recommended mercenary: Use Subo as your active mercenary. His ability to show enemies on the map is extremely helpful for clearing efficiently.

Preparing the Dungeon

Once you have found a nightmare dungeon with a shrine affix, follow these steps:

Kill every enemy inside the dungeon except the boss. Leave the boss alive.

Do not use any shrines yet. Leave them untouched.

Kill all other enemies on the map. Subo helps you track them down.

The Corrupted Roots Loop

Now it is time to use your corrupted roots:

Use a corrupted root and see what spawns. You are looking for a head rotten boss. The spawn chance is roughly 25%.

If weak zombies or an elite zombie spawn, kill them. There is a 1-minute cooldown on corrupted roots after use.

To bypass the cooldown, teleport back to town and return to the dungeon. This resets the cooldown immediately.

Repeat until you successfully spawn a head rotten boss. You may need to use multiple corrupted roots—this is why you started with 20 to 30.

The Shrine Manipulation

Once a head rotten boss has spawned:

Kill every other enemy that spawned with the boss, but do not kill the boss yet.

Teleport back to town, then teleport back into the dungeon. This resets the pool of monsters that will spawn from shrines.

Now kill the boss. Loot whatever drops.

Due to the Dread Revival node, the boss has a chance to respawn after death.

Shrine sequence: Move toward a shrine and click it. The Nemesis node will spawn 1 to 7 copies of the boss. Each copy drops loot, including a guaranteed whisper cache. Whisper caches contain experience orbs (from Wisdom of Whisperers) and corrupted roots (from your other nodes).

After clearing the first shrine, move to the second shrine. Click it immediately—there is no benefit to waiting for the first shrine's effect to end. Bosses will not spawn again once the shrine effect expires, so you can chain shrines back to back.

Repeat for the third shrine. Each shrine can spawn up to 7 bosses, each dropping a whisper cache.

Completing the Loop

After using all shrines in the dungeon, you will have accumulated a large number of whisper caches. These contain:

Experience orbs (scaled by Wisdom of Whisperers)

Corrupted roots (making the farm self-sustaining)

To continue the farm, go back to town, reset the nightmare dungeon, and start the entire process over again.

Additional Notes

Resplendent Sparks: If you take the final war plan node in the nightmare dungeon section, whisper caches have a chance to drop Resplendent Sparks. The relevance of this in the current season is uncertain, but it may become more valuable in Season 14.

No waiting required: You do not need to wait for shrine effects to expire between clicks. The bosses only spawn when you activate a shrine, not after the effect ends. Click all shrines in sequence immediately.

Efficiency tips:

  • Always teleport to town and back to reset corrupted root cooldowns rather than waiting

  • Keep Subo as your mercenary for enemy radar

  • Stockpile 20-30 corrupted roots before your first run

  • Do not kill the dungeon boss during the initial clear—save it for the shrine manipulation phase

Summary

This farm transforms nightmare dungeons with shrine affixes into boss factories. By combining corrupted roots, the Nemesis node, and Dread Revival, you spawn waves of head rotten bosses that drop whisper caches filled with XP orbs. While the farm itself generates plenty of loot, if you find yourself short on resources to optimize your gear further, you can always buy Diablo 4 Gold from MMOEXP to supplement your needs. The farm is self-sustaining—you will always leave with as many corrupted roots as you entered with, if not more. This is the most efficient path to level 300 in Season 13, and it will likely remain the best method in Season 14.
