Grinding Gear Games has designed Path of Exile 2 with a mix of new mechanics, revamped combat systems, and subtle mysteries tucked away in its campaign. Among these mysteries is the Ferryman, a special point of interest that appears during the Interludes. Unlike other areas or NPCs that you stumble upon naturally, the Ferryman is surprisingly easy to miss. For players aiming to achieve full completion in the story, knowing his location is essential, not to mention the fact that he functions as a unique vendor.

This guide breaks down where to find the Ferryman, and what he sells.
Where Exactly Is the Ferryman in Path of Exile 2
The Ferryman is located in Holten, which becomes available in the Interludes during Act 5.1. To reach Holten, players first pass through the Blackwood, an area that acts as a gateway. Once inside Holten, the Ferryman can be spotted in a small harbor area, standing beside a docked boat. He isn't hidden behind puzzles or locked doors, but due to the way maps generate in Path of Exile 2, his presence isn't always obvious.
Even though Path of Exile 2 features randomly generated maps for replayability, certain key layouts remain consistent. The Ferryman is always positioned northwest of the Waypoint in Holten. To get there, players should head left from the Waypoint and follow the path that curves back toward the water. While small details such as side paths or enemy clusters might shift due to procedural generation, the major landmarks never change, so the harbor will always be there.
For completionists who want to check every box in their campaign progression, discovering the Ferryman is necessary. Since he's a labeled point of interest, missing him means your completion tracker won't hit 100%.
The Ferryman's Role as a Vendor
The Ferryman isn't just a lore-based NPC, he's also a merchant with a very specific purpose. His shop offers nine Greater Runes, each priced at 2,046 Gold. Greater Runes are valuable POE 2 items that can significantly enhance a character's setup, particularly for players experimenting with mid-campaign builds.
However, there's a catch:
The Ferryman's shop does not restock.
Once the nine runes are purchased, his inventory is permanently gone.
Progressing the story, leveling up, or resetting the area will not refresh his items.
