Summary
The Path of Exile 2 one-shot challenge presents one of the most difficult self-imposed restrictions imaginable. Every boss in the campaign must be defeated in a single hit from one skill, with phases requiring individual one-shot checks. Starting fresh on a solo self-found character with no trading or twink gear, the run demands meticulous planning, extensive farming, and precise execution across all six acts and three interludes. From the Devourer in Act 1 to Tavakai in Act 4 and every optional boss in between, each encounter becomes a test of damage optimization, critical strike fishing, and sheer persistence. For players interested in acquiring POE2 Currency more efficiently through traditional farming methods, this challenge serves as a reminder that dedicated grinding and strategic gearing remain essential to achieving high-level goals. After nearly two weeks of attempts, countless resets, and one power outage, the question receives a definitive answer.
The Rules of the Challenge
The challenge begins upon reaching Clearfell Encampment. Every boss must be defeated in one hit from a single skill. Any ignites or damage-over-time effects count as part of that one shot, though the goal remains a crisp 100-to-zero elimination that is absolutely undeniable.
Buffs and debuffs are permitted, but anything that deals damage to a boss must reduce its life to zero in that single instance. Otherwise, the attempt resets to the nearest checkpoint. For bosses with multiple phases, each phase qualifies as its own one-shot check—dealing enough damage to transition a phase counts as a successful one-shot for that segment.
Additional restrictions include:
Fresh start, solo self-found only—no trading and no twink gear.
Vendors, gambling, crafting, overleveling, and boss resets are permitted.
Normal monsters do not require one-shot kills to preserve sanity.
Progression is divided into area blocks. Players cannot enter the next block until every boss in the current block—including optional bosses—has been one-shot.
Class and Skill Selection
Explosive Grenade emerges as the optimal choice. It delivers exceptional early single-target damage, and the Ranger starts near projectile damage and critical nodes on the passive tree, providing two early scaling paths. The plan takes shape: crossbows, grenades, and as much flat added damage as possible.
Act 1: The Grind Begins
First Breakpoint: Level 10
The first major breakpoint is level 10—the next crossbow base appears in Renley's shop. Three hours into Red Veil and several upgrades later, level 10 arrives. Renley stocks a Sturdy Crossbow. Adding sockets, quality, flat damage runes, and linking Explosive Grenade with Multishot and Elemental Armament transforms the impossible idea into reality.
Frost Bomb Loophole
Frost Bomb applies exposure to lower enemy resistance—but it also deals damage. The solution: Brutality Support. Linking Frost Bomb to Brutality prevents elemental damage while still applying exposure. The boss loses resistance, and the setup deals zero damage.
Critical Strike Fishing
With a measly 5% critical strike chance, bosses can be reset indefinitely on failed attempts. If a normal hit removes more than half of a boss's life, a lucky critical strike could secure the one-shot. This is a one-shot challenge, not a one-try challenge—making crit fishing entirely legitimate.
Block One Complete
Beira becomes the first real test. The first successful crit lands—she dies instantly. The Devourer falls without much resistance. Brambleghast receives a clean one-shot. The Rusk King, with the largest health pool of the first block, demands a big crit. After several attempts, he falls. Block one is complete.
Through the Cemetery
The Rotten Druid represents a major health jump. The first non-crit removes roughly half his life—damage is already sufficient. A few attempts later, he falls. Bristlebore grants rage whenever the player is hit, providing 30% more damage at 30 rage—the missing piece. Ainia and Draven fall cleanly. Lachlan proves more difficult until a power charge setup delivers the final blow.
Six hours into day one, the first two blocks are complete.
Act 1: The Executioner and Geonor
The Executioner
The Hunting Grounds introduce the Executioner. Crowbell falls first. Augam Village becomes the next farming hub with the goal of reaching level 16 for the Varnish Crossbow base. However, Renley's shop is hard-locked to item level 15—the Varnish Crossbow requires level 16. The crossbow cannot be purchased, only farmed.
A Lesser Jeweler's Orb eventually drops, enabling Ambush Support—doubling base critical chance against full-life targets. The King in the Mists falls, granting access to Spirit and the Attrition support gem. Attrition grants more attack damage against a target the longer they remain in the player's presence.
The Executioner was supposed to end the run. The first non-crit removes roughly half his life. With patience and luck, the allegedly impossible boss dies almost immediately.
