PoE 2: Dawn of the Hunt - 0.2.0 Crafting Changes

Path of Exile 2's new patch 0.2.0, Dawn of the Hunt, introduces several new crafting methods to allow players more agency over their gearing. With the introduction of not only Fracturing Orbs but also Recombinators and a platter of new high-tier Socketables, players should be able to fine-tune their gear more easily without having to resort to the Trade Site to find their next upgrade.

New PoE 2 Crafting Tools

Let's discuss everything that was added in the new PoE 2 Dawn of the Hunt patch in short and then get into more detail:

Fracturing Orbs

Fracturing Orbs are a new PoE2 Currency that allows players to attempt to permanently lock one modifier in on an item. Fracturing Orbs can only be used on an item with at least 4 modifiers, so there is some risk to it, but once a modifier has been Fractured, it can never be removed from the item, allowing players to craft the rest of the item more freely without the worry of losing their most desirable modifier. Fracturing Orbs can be acquired from monsters slain in Cleansed areas of the endgame.

Azmeri Runes

Azmeri Runes are new socketable items that can be used to gain more powerful effects than regular Runes. These items can be acquired from slaying beasts affected by Asmeri Wisps. These Azmeri Runes allow players more flexibility and control over the types of modifiers they need on their gear and provide socketable options for not only martial characters but spellcasters and minion classes too.

Talismans

Talismans are another new socketable item that can be used to gain powerful offensive and defensive effects. However, these are different from normal Runes in that each Talisman has to be socketed into a specific gear slot to gain the effects

New Rune Tiers

In addition to the new Talismans and Azmeri Runes, which are more endgame-focused, additional tiers of standard Ezomyte Runes have been added to the game. You can now find both lower and higher-tier versions of the Runes we came to know during the first few months of Path of Exile 2

Corrupted Essences

You can now use Vaal Orbs on Essences that you find to have a chance at adding more Essences, increasing their tier from Normal to Greater, or possibly even converting one of the Essences into a special new Corrupted Essence that grants unique modifiers. These Corrupted Essences will provide new abilities to the monster affected by them, but succeeding will grant you an Essence that can apply a powerful modifier to your item. We've one of these Essences, and it grants a Suffix that guarantees two Corrupted implicits when affected by a Vaal Orb

Recombinators

Expedition now provides the opportunity to use Recombinators - a powerful mechanic that allows players to attempt to merge two items into one, creating a blend of the existing modifiers on the item. The concept behind this is that you might have one or a few good modifiers on two different items of the same type. Either of these items separately might not be good enough to use, but if you could merge some of the good modifiers from each item into a single item, it could be incredibly powerful. This is what Recombinators do.

Let's say you have a pair of Boots with 35% increased Movement Speed and 40% Fire Resistance and a second pair with +100 to Maximum Life and +40% Cold Resistance. Neither of these items is particularly good, but Recombinators allows players to select the mods they wish to merge and then have a chance to get all of them on a single item. The more modifiers you select to attempt to merge, the lower your chances of success. If you are unsuccessful, both PoE 2 items will be destroyed, but if you succeed, you could end up with a pair of godly boots with two great Resistances, Life and Movement speed
