Overview
This PoE 2 guide explains why Corrupting Cry has made a comeback in 0.5 League. After being nerfed in Season 1, this build has been reborn with the Gemling Legionnaire ascendancy. Its core rotation is simple: approach enemies, use Fortifying Cry, and apply Corrupting Blood stacks. You don't even need to swing your weapon.

Core Mechanics
How Corrupting Blood Works: Fortifying Cry applies five stacks of Corrupting Blood to every enemy in its radius. With Echoing Cry, the skill echoes three times, so one cast applies up to 15 stacks. The maximum stacks on an enemy is 10 normally, or 13 with the Anemia mod on an Absent amulet. Corrupting Blood deals physical damage over time. It is not an ailment, not a bleed, and not a hit. It only scales with generic damage and physical damage increases.
The Self-Damage Risk: The Packs Pack support gem causes you to take increased damage each time you use a warcry recently. The penalty applies after the first warcry and lasts 4 seconds. At most, you take 10% of your maximum life. However, if you use endurance charges to bypass the cooldown and spam your warcry, you will kill yourself. One cast every three to four seconds is all you need.
Gemling Quality Stacking: Your dodge roll becomes super fast, covering nearly an entire screen in one button press. This mobility is critical for positioning and survival.
Combat Rotation
Mapping: Simply walk through the map. Fortifying Cry applies Corrupting Blood to everything in range. Re-cast every few seconds.
Standard Bosses: Pre-stack Fortifying Cry and Corrupting Blood on the boss before they become targetable. You can apply stacks during invulnerability phases. Then hold Resonating Shield to break their armor.
Pinnacle Bosses: Add Leap Slam onto the boss to create consecrated ground and shocked ground. Your weapon guarantees a critical hit, which creates shocked ground every time. Then stack Fortifying Cry and Resonating Shield as normal. Remember to swap back to weapon set one—Fortifying Cry does not work on set two.
Skill Gems
Fortifying Cry is your bread and butter. It is a melee attack skill, allowing you to scale it with rare gear rather than uniques. Support with Packs Pack (five stacks per use), Echoing Cry (three echoes), Brutality, Deflection, and Physical Mastery. The "40% less damage" on Echoing Cry applies only to the warcry's hit, not to Packs Pack.
Resonating Shield breaks enemy armor. Breaking armor gives a damage boost through Earth's Smelting (5% increased physical damage per break, up to 20%). Current Ferocity crushes targets, giving them 15% less physical damage reduction—effectively 50% more damage to Corrupting Blood.
Leap Slam is for single-target on pinnacle bosses. Keep it at the lowest possible level to reduce mana costs. Support with Shocking Leap, Holy Descent, Persistent Ground, and Encroaching Ground.
Cast on Dodge comes from your amulet and has no spirit cost. Its main value is the buff to dodge roll distance. Socket Enfeeble (20% quality plus global modifiers gives 100% reduced cost), Bounder's Energy, Titan Curse, and Magnified Area.
Herald of Blood works because Corrupting Blood counts as blood loss. When an enemy dies from Corrupting Blood, Herald explodes them for 23% of their life as physical damage to surrounding enemies.
Magma Barrier is one of the most important spirit gems. It grants 10% maximum block chance. Combined with Saffel's Frame (converts max block to max resistances) and Vigilance, you reach 90% to all resistances, including chaos.
