If you're looking for a profitable Abyss strategy in PoE2, farming Abyssal Troves is a strong way to target Craniums while also generating Omens of Light, Ancient Bones, and other valuable rewards. The strategy described here produced 233 Divines of revenue from 35 maps, with a total investment of about 33 Divines.
That works out to roughly 200 Divines of profit, or 57+ POE 2 Divine Orbs per hour at a pace of 10 maps per hour. The calculation only includes the main Abyss and Omen rewards, so additional drops can push the actual return higher.
How the Abyss Cranium Farm Works
The core idea is simple: maximize Abyssal Troves and improve the quality of their rewards through map and tablet modifiers.
Craniums and the Ancient Bone items come primarily from Abyssal Troves and their Strongboxes. Unlike character Item Rarity, the rarity on your Waystone and tablets is important for improving the rewards from these chests.
At the same time, the strategy also targets Omens of Light by increasing monster rarity. This creates an "everything farm" that combines several valuable Abyss rewards rather than focusing exclusively on Craniums.
Why Item Rarity and Monster Rarity Both Matter
The two types of rarity serve different purposes:
Item Rarity: Improves Abyssal Trove rewards.
Monster Rarity: Helps with Omen of Light farming.
Waystone and tablet rarity: Affects the Abyss chest rewards.
Character Item Rarity is not the focus for Abyssal Trove rewards.
Because Craniums are the primary target, prioritize Item Rarity when possible. Monster Rarity can then be added to improve the Omen side of the strategy.
Best Waystone Setup
There are two approaches depending on how much effort you want to put into preparing your maps.
Low-Effort Setup
For a simpler setup, use a T15 Waystone with:

Chaotic Omen Quantity
High overall rarity
Six-mod maps can be prepared using the appropriate chaotic modifiers. This approach requires less preparation and still provides a strong baseline return.
High-Effort Setup
For maximum efficiency, use corrupted T15–T16 Waystones with approximately:
60%+ Monster Rarity
40%+ Item Rarity
These maps take more preparation and can cost more, but they better support both halves of the strategy.
If Craniums are your main priority, favor maps with higher Item Rarity rather than sacrificing too much rarity for monster-focused modifiers.
Abyss Tablet Setup
The two most important Abyss tablet modifiers are the foundation of the strategy:
1. Abyss Pits in Maps are twice as likely to have rewards
2. Increased chance for Desecrated Currency from Abysses in Maps
Using two tablets with the first modifier means every Abyss pit should be able to generate a reward under normal conditions. More rewarded pits ultimately means more opportunities to encounter the Abyssal Troves you're targeting.
Two tablets are also relatively inexpensive compared with more heavily modded tablets, making this setup suitable for repeated farming.
Optional Tablet Juice
You can add additional Abyss modifiers if you have access to better tablets, but three- and four-mod tablets become considerably rarer and more expensive.
For players combining Abyss with Omen farming, a Delirium tablet can also provide additional value, particularly when running suitable City maps. Delirium adds more monster modifiers, which can help the Omen side of the strategy while also providing Delirium-related rewards.
Wildwood Wisps can provide another layer of investment when available, although they cannot be combined with 200% Delirium.
