1. Thorns Scales With Spell Power
The biggest discovery is that Thorns does not simply deal its standard reflected damage. Spell Power can increase the amount of damage returned to attackers.

Several Spell Power items: around 14 damage
More Spell Power: around 22 damage
Fully buffed: around 26 damage
The Druid also noticed that the increased Thorns damage remained after changing some gear, making the interaction even more interesting.

2. Druids May Want a Dedicated Spell Power Set
This interaction could completely change how some WoW Forever Druids approach gearing.
A dedicated Spell Power set can be used specifically for Thorns, while also supporting Balance abilities. Instead of choosing between Feral and Balance gear all the time, players can maintain another setup for PvP situations.
The current gear setup was not even complete. The Druid was still missing important pieces, including a chest item and wrists that could provide additional Spell Power.
There is also a special Thorns chest piece that reportedly adds 2 more reflected damage, although its reported 80 gold price makes it a serious investment.
3. Balance Druid Is Looking Much More Interesting
The Spell Power setup is not only about Thorns.
Testing showed that Balance spells can also benefit from the same gearing strategy:
Wrath: around 90 damage
Starfire: around 200 damage
Improved Wrath can reduce its mana cost by 50%
Moonkin-focused talents could reduce the cost even further
This creates a potentially powerful hybrid PvP setup.
A Druid can punish melee attackers with Thorns while using Wrath and Starfire to pressure enemies from range. That gives Balance players another reason to experiment with Spell Power gear instead of focusing exclusively on traditional stats.
4. PvP Tests Make the Thorns Build Look Dangerous
The most interesting results came from actual PvP testing.
Against lower-level melee attackers, Thorns was enough to burn through their health surprisingly quickly. Even a level 20 Hunter's attacks were being punished by the reflected damage.
The Rogue matchup was even more notable.
A fully geared level 20 Rogue could deal damage to the Druid, but continuing to attack also meant taking Thorns damage. Once the Druid added Root, healing, and crowd control to the setup, the Rogue had a much harder time maintaining pressure.
The basic strategy is simple:
Let the melee class engage.
Keep Thorns active.
Use Root or similar control abilities.
Heal while the enemy takes reflected damage.
Finish the target with Balance spells when possible.
It turns the opponent's own melee attacks into part of the Druid's damage rotation.
5. Buffs Can Push Thorns Even Higher
The current testing also showed how temporary Spell Power buffs can increase the numbers.
The setup used several consumables and enhancements, including:
Wizard Oil: +15 Spell Power
Smoked Sagefish: +4 Spell Power
Elixir: +5 Spell Power
Lesser Spellblasting Potion: additional Spell Power
With these bonuses active, Thorns reached approximately 26 reflected damage.
That number could potentially increase further once the remaining gear pieces and enchants are added.
6. Will Thorns Become a Meta Druid Build?
It is still too early to call this a finished meta build.
The beta is still being tested, and the exact behavior of Thorns and its Spell Power scaling could receive changes. However, the early results already give Druids a compelling reason to experiment.
