Summary

Claret introduces Zenless Zone Zero's new Armor class and brings a unique damage system built around Sharp Damage, Gash, Maim, and Laceration. While her kit initially looks complicated, her actual gameplay is fairly straightforward: enter her enhanced state, build Gash on enemies, then consume those stacks during key damage windows.

She also scales heavily with Defense and can convert excess Crit Rate into additional Laceration damage, giving her a different stat profile from conventional Crit DPS agents. To build her around the right stat priorities, buy Zenless Zone Zero Top Up and secure the resources you need.

Claret's Armor Mechanics Explained

Crimson Inscription, Gash and Maim

Claret enters her Crimson Inscription state through her EX Special. While active, her Basic Attack changes and her attacks build Gash on enemies through Sharp Damage.

Gash can stack up to three times. Once enough Gash has been applied, Claret can consume it with her Special or EX Special to trigger Maim, dealing additional Electric damage.

Her Core Passive converts her damage into Sharp Damage, while her damage multiplier scales with Defense. This makes Defense one of the most important stats for her overall damage.

Claret's attacks also use Laceration Damage when they Crit rather than benefiting directly from conventional Crit Damage. Most importantly, Crit Rate above 100% continues to have value.

For example, with 150% Crit Rate, the additional 50% becomes useful through her Laceration mechanic. Her Crit Damage also contributes to Crit Rate through her kit, creating another reason to stack both stats when possible.

Managing Claret's Enhanced State

Claret starts combat with Sharpness and uses it as the resource for her EX Special. Outside her enhanced state, the EX Special activates Crimson Inscription for 16 seconds.

That window is shorter than it might initially seem, so timing matters. The duration does not decrease while Claret is off field, and defeating an enemy extends the duration by three seconds.

Her Chain Attack and Ultimate also avoid reducing the remaining enhanced-state duration, making them especially valuable during her main damage sequence.

How to Play Claret

Claret's gameplay outside Stun windows is relatively simple. Use her Basic Attack to build Gash, perform Defensive Assists when possible, and consume Gash when necessary.

However, you generally want to enter the Stun window with three Gash stacks already prepared.

Claret's Main Stun Rotation

When the enemy is approaching Stun, activate Claret's EX Special at roughly 50–70% of the way toward the Stun threshold. Then prepare three Gash stacks before the enemy becomes Stunned.

Once the Stun window begins, the basic sequence is:

1. Use EX Special to consume the prepared Gash.

2. Trigger another agent's Chain Attack.

3. Use Claret's Chain Attack.

4. Cancel the Chain Attack and use Claret's Basic Attack.

5. Trigger another Chain Attack while Claret is still airborne.

6. Cancel it and use Basic Attack again.

7. Use Claret's Ultimate as she lands.

8. Follow with EX Special.

9. Build additional Gash and consume it if there is enough time.

The goal is to fit multiple Maim activations and her Ultimate into the same Stun window. The sequence can feel demanding at first, especially with active supports, but Claret herself is relatively easy to understand once the timing becomes familiar.

Best Claret W-Engines

Crimson Thirst

Crimson Thirst is Claret's signature and best-in-slot W-Engine. It provides a large Defense main stat and increases her Crit Rate, which directly supports her requirement to exceed 100% Crit Rate.

It also increases Electric damage after using EX Special and provides another Electric Sharp Damage bonus after triggering Maim.

Because these effects directly support Claret's core mechanics, the signature is the benchmark for her W-Engine performance.

Other W-Engine Options

Crit Rate W-Engines such as Heart of Nocturne and Cordis Termina can work because additional Crit Rate remains useful for Claret's Laceration mechanics.

If Crit Rate is already sufficient, Defense-focused options such as Big Cylinder and Bunny Band can instead provide useful defensive stats.

Blood Marrow Coffer, the new Battle Pass option, offers Crit Rate and additional damage based on Crit Rate above 100%. It is a reasonable alternative, but it remains noticeably behind Claret's signature.

The craftable Caddy Luck provides Defense and can further increase Defense after using EX Special. It is another accessible option for players without the signature.

Best Drive Discs for Claret

Thorn Rose

Thorn Rose is Claret's preferred four-piece set. Its two-piece effect increases Defense, while the four-piece effect increases her damage and provides additional Crit Rate based on her initial Defense.

For the two-piece combination, Puffer Electro is one of the strongest choices because of its Pen Ratio bonus. Other offensive options such as Woodpecker Electro, Solarock, and Thunder Metal can also work.

Recommended Main Stats

For Claret's main stats, aim for:

Slot 4: Crit Rate

Slot 5: Pen Ratio, Electric DMG, or DEF%

Slot 6: DEF%

For substats, prioritize:

1. Crit Rate

2. DEF%

3. Crit Damage

4. Flat DEF

5. Flat Pen

Crit Damage is still useful because of Claret's unique conversion mechanics, although Crit Rate remains the primary priority.

A strong target is around 2,600 DEF, 130% Crit Rate, and 115% Crit Damage. For newer or returning players, approximately 2,300 DEF, 100% Crit Rate, and 80–100% Crit Damage is already a reasonable starting point.

Best Claret Teams

Claret's team options are somewhat unusual because some of her strongest partners require more active field management.

Norma + Rina

Norma + Rina provides one of Claret's strongest Stun-oriented combinations. In testing, this lineup reached around 42,500 in Shu Defense and 52,300 in Deadly Assault.

Rina's buff management can make the team more demanding to operate, but the combination provides excellent damage when played correctly.

Lycaon + Rina

For a more accessible lineup, Lycaon + Rina performs well. It reached approximately 36,900 in Shu Defense and 45,000 in Deadly Assault in the tested setup.

Lycaon also gives Claret a strong Stun partner, while Rina contributes offensive support.

Lycaon + Nicole

Lycaon and Nicole offer another option, although the tested scores were lower at approximately 31,300 in Shu Defense and 39,600 in Deadly Assault.

Nicole does require more careful buff timing, but she can still work effectively with Claret when the team is properly managed.

Claret's Damage Performance

Claret's strongest tested team showed a considerable advantage over several other Electric DPS compositions.

Against a Seed, Cecilia, and Trigger lineup, the Claret team had roughly a 6,800-point advantage in Shu Defense and around 21,000 in Deadly Assault.

Against Seed, Cecilia, and Astra, the gaps were approximately 11,000 and 23,000 points respectively.

The tested comparisons also showed substantial advantages over Harumasa and Soldier Zero-based Electric teams.

Part of this performance comes from the current environment, including encounters and buffs that favor Armor mechanics. Upcoming Armor-focused enemies can further increase the value of Sharp Damage and Laceration.

Claret Mindscapes

Claret's Mindscapes provide meaningful improvements rather than simply adding minor stat increases.

M1 improves Gash buildup and increases the damage multiplier of Maim triggered by Claret.

M2 extends her enhanced-state duration and allows more of her attacks to ignore a portion of the enemy's Electric Resistance.

M4 extends her consecutive-slash sequence and increases damage from important parts of her Basic Attack, Chain Attack, and Ultimate.

M6 allows powerful attacks from her Ultimate and Chain Attack to trigger Maim without consuming Gash, significantly increasing her overall damage potential.

M1 and M2 provide approximately 14% and 19% overall DPS increases, respectively, in the tested setup. M6 provides a much larger increase of roughly 45%.

For investment, M1 or M2 can be natural stopping points, while her signature W-Engine is generally the more impactful early upgrade compared with M1.

Is Claret Worth Building?

Claret is a powerful new Electric DPS whose identity revolves around Defense scaling, excess Crit Rate, Gash management, and Maim-triggered damage.

Her actual rotation is easier than her description suggests, but her teams can demand more precise buff and swap management. She also benefits heavily from the current Armor-focused environment.

If you want to build around the new Armor mechanics, Claret provides a complete package of high damage, a unique combat system, dedicated Drive Discs, and strong team performance.

Her biggest limitation is not her personal gameplay but the complexity of some of her strongest teammates. Once those rotations become familiar, however, Claret's damage potential becomes much easier to realize. To build and practice with her optimal team faster, Zenless Zone Zero Top Up can help you secure the resources needed to pull for her best supports.
