The second method is farming Uber Hillock, which is considerably more unusual.
Uber Hillock has a guaranteed Oni-Goroshi drop, but there is an important restriction: he can only be encountered in the Twilight Strand in Act 1.
Once you leave the Twilight Strand, you cannot simply return later and continue farming him. That means your entire farming strategy needs to be built around staying in this starting area.
How the Uber Hillock Farm Works
The basic strategy is straightforward.
Create a character, remain in the Twilight Strand, rush toward Hillock, kill him, collect the loot, and log out. The area eventually resets, allowing you to repeat the process.
The Twilight Strand has an unusually short reset time of around 90 seconds, which makes it possible to optimize the farm by using multiple characters.
If your character can kill Uber Hillock in roughly 30 seconds, running four characters in parallel can significantly reduce downtime. While one character is waiting for the area to reset, another can be progressing toward Hillock.
This turns an otherwise slow farming process into a more efficient rotation.
Why Scion Is a Popular Choice
Scion is particularly useful for this strategy because of the early movement speed available from the passive tree.
The objective isn't to create a powerful endgame character. Instead, you want to maximize early movement speed, survivability, and enough damage to kill Hillock quickly.
During the initial runs, collect useful starter equipment such as:
Movement speed boots
A strong two-handed weapon for early damage
Iron Rings
Any basic gear that improves your early combat performance
Once your character has enough basic equipment, the process becomes much simpler: rush down the beach, kill Hillock, collect the drop, and log out.
The Biggest Challenge: Uber Hillock
Normal Hillock is an easy enemy for experienced players, but Uber Hillock is a completely different problem.
He has significantly more health and possesses two additional abilities that make the encounter dangerous for low-level characters.
His most threatening ability is Leap Slam. Uber Hillock can leap across the arena and land directly on your character, dealing a huge amount of damage. At such a low character level, getting hit can bring you dangerously close to death.
His second special ability summons zombies. Individually, these zombies aren't particularly threatening, but allowing too many to accumulate can quickly create a dangerous situation.
The key is to keep moving while eliminating the summoned enemies whenever necessary.
Use the Environment to Kill Hillock Faster
Scion's starting skill can also create an interesting opportunity.
Much of the skill's damage is dealt toward the end of its movement. If you can position Hillock between your character, the beach's walls, and the skill's path, you can sometimes force the attack to connect more effectively.
This can dramatically shorten the fight during the earliest levels, when your character lacks the damage normally available later in the game.
The faster you kill Hillock, the more efficient every farming cycle becomes.
When Does Oni-Goroshi Usually Drop?
Based on the farming experience described, Oni-Goroshi appears to drop at very low character levels, particularly around levels 6–8.
Level 7 appears to be an especially important point in the farming process, with multiple swords potentially appearing after the first successful drop.
One reported run produced the first Oni-Goroshi after 8 hours, 44 minutes, and 58 seconds. After that first sword appeared, the remaining three characters produced their own swords in less than another hour, resulting in four swords in under 9.5 hours.
However, this should not be interpreted as a guaranteed farming timeline. Drop results can vary dramatically.
Can One Character Drop Multiple Swords?
This is one of the more frustrating questions surrounding the farm.
Some players claim that a single character can obtain more than one Oni-Goroshi. An experiment involving multiple characters attempted to test this possibility by continuing to farm after obtaining the first sword.
The experiment continued for approximately 22 hours without producing another sword on the tested characters.
That experience suggests that deliberately farming for multiple Oni-Goroshi drops on the same character may not be an efficient strategy, although it does not by itself establish a universal rule about the drop system.
For practical farming, using several low-level characters and rotating them may be a more sensible approach.
How Long Does Oni-Goroshi Farming Take?
The answer is simple: it can take a very long time.
The reported fastest successful farm was around four hours, while another early attempt took approximately 18 hours. The latest test produced the first sword after nearly nine hours.
That enormous variation is exactly why Oni-Goroshi farming is not suitable for everyone.
If the sword is selling for more than 15 Divine Orbs, the potential reward can be attractive, but the opportunity cost is substantial. You are spending hours repeating the same early-game route rather than progressing through the league.
Is Oni-Goroshi Farming Worth Doing in PoE 3.29?
Oni-Goroshi farming is essentially a high-patience, low-complexity strategy. The mechanics are simple, the target is guaranteed once Uber Hillock appears, and the sword's value can make a successful drop lucrative.
However, the time investment is unpredictable. Players who enjoy repetitive optimization and want to target a valuable unique may find the strategy interesting. Players focused on progressing their main character or farming endgame content may prefer to spend those hours mapping.
