Diablo 4 Season 14: Progression Guide from Level 70 to Torment 12
Summary
This guide covers the post-70 progression path to Torment 12, based on a Necromancer build that reached Torment 8 within seven hours of character creation. The strategies outlined apply broadly to most classes and builds. If you find yourself stuck on gear upgrades or want to skip the early grind, you can buy Diablo IV Items to fill in gaps and accelerate your push into higher Torment tiers.
The First Mistake to Avoid
Jumping directly into Torment 1 upon reaching level 70 is a trap. Instead, remain in Penitent difficulty and continue farming Helltides using the Writh and Rot node in the activity tree. Fill the threat meter to approximately two-thirds; otherwise, Hellworms will not spawn.
This approach will fast-track you to 40-50 Paragon points. Why is this critical? It allows you to complete your first Paragon board and unlock your first legendary node. For a Cold Necromancer, the Cold Leader node provides 200% bonus damage. With this multiplier, Torment 1 becomes manageable.
To enter Torment 1, complete the capstone dungeon on Hard, the second on Penitent, and then finish Pit level 10.
First Steps in Torment 1
Upon entering Torment 1, proceed to the vendors in Teis to acquire 850 item power gear. These vendors can occasionally stock 900 item power items as well. Scan the 850 items for useful multipliers—they can carry you for some time. Also speak to the bartering NPC for ancestral items and, importantly, the resource/defense aspect caches. These are the easiest source of aspects early on.
If you lack damage multiplier aspects, use the Horadric Cube to upgrade yellow items to legendary. With 5-10 primordial dust, you can transform some of your gear for immediate power gains.
Instead of continuing War Plans immediately, run another Helltide in Torment 1 to reach 60-80 Paragon points. This unlocks the second legendary node—another significant damage multiplier.
When to Kill Lair Bosses
Do not kill Lair Bosses before Torment 2 or 3. The drops are not worthwhile at lower difficulties. Lair Boss farming becomes efficient only from Torment 2 onward.
Seasonal Reputation Rewards
Teleport to Zarbinzet and collect rewards from the seasonal reputation board. Reputation gains are accelerated by disrupting rituals and slaying summons—any kills near portals count, whether in Helltides or Pit runs.
Obtaining Signature Uniques
After killing your first bosses using Lair Keys (obtained from Helltides or seasonal rank progression), you should have at least one signature unique, if not two. A two-set bonus is also achievable at this stage. In Torment 8, a split set (two pieces of Black Shroud and three of Waking Touch) can still function effectively even without the full damage multiplier.
The Sears Reach Farm for Gems and Set Charms
From Torment 4 onward, a highly efficient farm becomes available. Sears Reach dungeon, located above Tamas near Teis, offers a quick method to acquire Grand gems and set charms.
Method
Enter Sears Reach on any Torment tier
Set a map marker at the dungeon entrance for quick navigation
Travel directly to the boss, ignoring trash mobs
Kill the boss, which drops skulls, jewels, and set charms
Leave dungeon, teleport out, reset the dungeon, and re-enter
The map marker persists, allowing rapid navigation to the boss each run
A zoo-style Necromancer can complete runs in approximately two minutes. Slower builds will take longer, but the rewards justify the time investment. Grand skulls provide 24% bonus damage each—two skulls alone grant 44% bonus damage. Greater affix items can also drop from this boss.
Resuming War Plans
After acquiring some uniques and set items, return to War Plans. Focus on the Bursting Brood node, which causes Maggots to drop boss trophies. Prioritize the Greater Helltide Harvest War Plan, which provides 206 activity points for spending 750 Cinders. With Writh and Rot active, gathering 750 Cinders takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
Rerolling Unique Items
Unique items can have one stat rerolled. For example, rerolling Resource into Critical Strike Damage is a viable upgrade. Be aware that costs escalate quickly—7 million gold per reroll is common.
Gold and Material Farming
Use the Horadric Cube to convert five Nightmare Dungeon sigils into a Nightmare Dungeon Escalation. These can provide substantial gold, materials, or other resources. In the War Table, prioritize Nightmare Dungeon Escalation nodes over standard Nightmare Dungeon nodes for significantly increased experience gains toward the activity tree.
The middle path in the Nightmare Dungeon tree allows selecting two portals, enabling targeted farming of gold or materials.
Defense and Survivability
With low armor and resistances, survival depends on other defensive layers:
Minion builds: Use minions as blockers
Damage Reduction Aspects: Heavenly Strength or Aspect of Disobedience (for damage-over-time builds)
Resolve Tempering: Limited to 40% maximum—not a primary solution
Mercenary Setup
Subo is useful for map visibility, but for survival, Rahier is preferred:
Rahier (Main): Select Bastion on the left side for bonus armor, or resistance to all elements on the right side
Alternative: Run Subo as main with Rahier as reinforcement, selecting Bastion to trigger when injured
Gear Progression
Throughout your climb to Torment 12, pick up 850 item power items even if they appear mediocre. An 850 amulet with crit chance, vulnerable damage, and resistance may outperform your current gear. Use the Horadric Cube to reroll undesirable stats when possible.
Expect to use 850 item power items well into Torment 8. Ancestral weapons may not drop until later.
Navigating Torment Tiers
Advance through Torment tiers when War Plans direct you to run Pits. Rather than pushing deeper arbitrarily, follow the War Plan progression. This method carried one character to Torment 9 efficiently.
Torment 8 is a significant milestone because:
Unique charms drop more frequently
War Plan activity experience is increased from this tier onward
Paragon Board Optimization
The initial goal is to activate all four legendary nodes with approximately 100 Paragon points. Once you reach 150-180 points, reset the tree and rebuild properly. The optimized setup should:
Activate all five glyph slots
Upgrade glyphs to Legendary tier
Glyph upgrades grant substantial bonuses: critical damage, physical damage, and other damage multipliers. At Pit tier 70, glyphs can be upgraded +2 per run due to the 20-level difference between your glyph level and the pit tier.
Loot Filters
Activate a loot filter around Torment 6. A simple filter should:
Hide all common, magic, and rare items
Recolor ancestral magic and rare items
Still show rare talismans for reroll materials
Recolor codex upgrades
Before Torment 7, keep loot filters minimal. Rare items serve as valuable crafting bases and salvaging them builds your stock of veiled crystals and other materials.
Seasonal Blessings
Prioritize seasonal blessings in this order:
Earn of Death Awakening: Increases reputation gain and accelerates progression through the reputation board
Earn of Reclamation: Provides more materials from salvage
Earn of Glyphs: Enhances glyph upgrades
Earn of Masterworking: Provides bonus opicide
The Earn of Ancestor Whispers (increased unique drop rate) is less impactful—many players report seeing no unique charm drops even with it active.
Mythic Upgrade Path
Mythic upgrades require Pandemonium Fragments, which drop from the Reaper boss. The number dropped scales with Torment tier:
Torment 6: 2 fragments
Torment 8: Significantly more
To obtain Superior Lair Keys (required for the Reaper), focus on Realmwalker events in Helltides. Enter the Deathtoll Chamber portal after defeating the Realmwalker—this chamber is the most reliable source of Superior Lair Keys.
Superior Lair Keys can also be used on Belial to target specific uniques, such as the Blade of Zurn for Necromancers.

Runes for Defense
Proper rune usage is critical for survivability. The Druid's Earth Bulwark rune provides a free barrier. Trigger it consistently using a rune that activates on ultimate skill casting. This allows the barrier to be permanently active with constant refreshing. Key runes to include: Que Rune, Neo Rune, Mooney Rune, and Sir Rune. Trigger the barrier every 3 seconds to maintain uptime. If you're missing any of these essential runes, you can buy Diablo IV Items from MMOEXP—they offer a wide selection of runes and gear to help you complete your setup quickly, so you can focus on perfecting your rotation instead of farming for hours.
