Summary:
Version 3.3 of Zenless Zone Zero brings major balance changes to Severin and Phoenix, including damage adjustments, new passive effects, Zenless Zone Zero Top Up, and important team-building changes that may shape the upcoming meta.
Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 Balance Update Overview
The latest Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 beta changes are giving players plenty to discuss. Severin and Phoenix have both received significant adjustments, although their changes take very different directions. Phoenix gets a mixture of buffs and nerfs, while Severin appears to gain a stronger overall identity despite several direct reductions.
One of the most interesting changes is Severin's revised passive. When another Wind Attribute character is present in the team, Severin can gain an additional 30% damage increase. Combined with his other improvements, this strongly encourages players to experiment with Wind-based team compositions.
The change may also hint at a future Wind Support Agent. While nothing has been officially confirmed, players are already speculating about potential characters that could fill this role.
Phoenix Receives Damage and Daze Adjustments
Phoenix is another major focus of the Version 3.3 changes. Several of her attacks have received higher damage values, giving her additional offensive potential. Her Daze values have also been increased on certain attacks, including X Blazing and her held Basic Attack.
Her Chain Attack now applies more Anomaly, while her third Basic Attack also receives a small increase to its Anomaly buildup. These improvements could make Phoenix more effective in teams that rely heavily on Anomaly mechanics.
However, Phoenix is not receiving buffs across the board. Several Daze values have been reduced, and some of her damage multipliers have also been lowered. Her held Basic Attack now generates approximately 50% less Energy than before.
Despite these reductions, the overall impact may not be severe enough to significantly change her position.
Phoenix's Ultimate Gets a Major Quality-of-Life Change
One of the most interesting Phoenix changes affects her Ultimate and its revival mechanic. Instead of gradually healing after being revived, Phoenix can now receive an instant heal.
This could be a meaningful quality-of-life improvement. The previous version potentially forced players to wait during the healing process, reducing the amount of time Phoenix could immediately spend fighting after revival.
Her Core Passive duration has also been extended to 20 seconds, providing a longer window for players to take advantage of its effects.
Phoenix still appears closely connected to Velina in the current testing environment, but future beta changes could open the door for additional team compositions.
Severin Gets Major Passive Improvements
Severin's changes are arguably the biggest story in the Version 3.3 beta. Several of his existing multipliers have been reduced. For example, the first hit of his Basic Attack has reportedly received a substantial reduction, while some Energy generation and follow-up damage have also been lowered.
At first glance, these changes might look like a significant nerf. However, his new passive effects could more than compensate for the reductions.
The maximum value of his Flowing Blood passive has increased from 120 to 150, allowing Severin to gain access to additional powerful attacks.
More importantly, his revised passive now provides a 20% damage increase, with another 30% increase when another Wind Attribute ally is present.
This makes Wind teammates much more valuable for Severin than before.
Why Wind Support Could Become Essential
The new Wind requirement is particularly interesting because it changes how Severin could be built in the future.
Previously, using Roxy alongside Severin was not necessarily an obvious choice. With the new passive, however, a Wind teammate becomes much more attractive.
This has naturally led to speculation about a future dedicated Wind Support character. If such a character provides strong universal buffs while also satisfying Severin's Wind requirement, Severin could potentially build teams without relying on Roxy.
There is currently no confirmed information establishing which character could become this support. Community speculation has mentioned possible collaboration characters and other upcoming characters, but these possibilities should be treated as speculation rather than confirmed information.
Severin's Additional Skill and Critical Scaling
Another important change affects Severin's Additional Ability. Instead of scaling directly with Attack percentage, the effect now scales with Critical Rate, up to its maximum value.
At maximum scaling, Severin can receive around 850 Attack, and the revised effect no longer requires temporary buffs or repeated refreshing.
This effectively creates a more consistent source of additional Attack during combat.
His Windborn mechanic has also been changed from an automatic activation tied to his entry skill to a manual activation when switching characters. His entry skill is additionally clarified as a non-heavy attack.
His M1 has also been redesigned. Instead of the previous 7% Basic Attack damage effect, the new version provides 50% Wind Resistance-related value, making the upgrade potentially much more impactful for Wind-focused builds.
New Upgrade Changes Favor Wind Teams
The Version 3.3 upgrade system also contains several notable adjustments.
One upgrade increases Special Attack damage for certain Anomaly Agents from 10% to 25%, representing a substantial improvement for Severin-related setups. Other upgrades increase Wind damage for Agents by as much as 30%.
At the same time, some Anomaly Mastery bonuses and Bloom-related damage increases have been removed or reduced.
These changes appear to shift the value of several upgrades toward specific team archetypes rather than providing universally useful bonuses.
Boss HP and Defensive Changes
Version 3.3 also makes smaller adjustments to several bosses.
The new 3.3 Trial Mode boss receives approximately a 4.26% HP increase, while Scorch Horizon's HP is reduced by around 0.84%.
Some Shield Defense encounters receive larger changes. Avarus and Miasmic Defector reportedly gain around 17.14% HP, while Conqueror receives a 10% reduction. Miasmic Terror Raptor also receives an increase.
Although some of these percentages appear significant, their practical impact may vary depending on player builds and team composition.
What the Changes Could Mean for the Meta
The biggest question surrounding Version 3.3 is whether Severin can move closer to the performance level of established high-damage characters such as Sigrid.
The answer will ultimately depend on final beta numbers and real gameplay testing. The current changes clearly give Severin a stronger incentive to use Wind teammates, while his new passive and Critical Rate scaling could provide a more consistent damage profile.
Phoenix, meanwhile, appears to remain viable despite her mixed adjustments. Her increased Anomaly application, revised revival mechanic, and longer Core Passive duration could help compensate for reductions elsewhere in her kit.
Looking Ahead to Version 3.4 and Sunbringer
The rapid development of the Version 3.3 beta is also increasing interest in Sunbringer and Version 3.4.
Players are particularly interested in discovering which characters will work with Sunbringer and whether Roxy will remain an important teammate. If more information arrives before Roxy's banner ends, players may have a better idea of whether investing in her makes sense for their planned teams.
The potential arrival of a dedicated Wind Support could make this decision even more complicated. If that character works particularly well with Severin and other Wind Agents, the value of current team-building choices could change considerably.
For now, the Version 3.3 beta suggests that Severin is being pushed toward Wind-based team compositions, while Phoenix continues to receive targeted adjustments to damage, Daze, Anomaly buildup, cheap Zenless Zone Zero Top Up, and survivability.
With more beta testing still ahead, these numbers and mechanics can change before the final release. For players following the Zenless Zone Zero 3.3 update, the upcoming changes to Severin, Phoenix, Wind Support possibilities, and Sunbringer will be among the most important developments to watch.
